Hi, I'm Alexa!
I’m Alexa Honegger, a graphic design student at East Carolina University, currently in my junior year and working towards my BFA with a concentration in graphic design. Art has always been a fundamental part of my life, and it’s through design that I’ve found a way to turn my passion into a career. As I continue my studies, I’m constantly excited by the ways design can blend creativity, communication, and problem-solving to make an impact.
I love taking on projects that challenge me to think outside the box and push my creative boundaries. Whether it’s through typography, branding, or illustration, I’m always eager to explore new techniques and ideas that will help me grow as a designer. I’m also deeply passionate about collaboration—working with peers and other artists to bring fresh perspectives and ideas into the design process.
My goal is to one day be an active part of the design industry, contributing meaningful work that resonates with people and has a lasting impact. I’m excited about the future and the endless possibilities in design, and I look forward to continuing to push myself creatively as I work towards becoming a professional designer.
Artist Statement

As a graphic designer, I consider the connection between identity and emotion when I create, examining how design may create a sense of belonging and connection in a world that is continuously changing. I believe design is more than just making something visually pleasing; it’s a language that conveys truth through visual means. This language builds empathy, and it reflects the world around us.
Since sketches enable me to transfer the abstract ideas that cross my mind onto paper, they are always the first step in my process. I then digitally develop these sketches to give them life using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign. This balance between being hand-drawn then digital allows me to stay close to my ideas while refining them into intentional, communicative visuals.
What drives my work is personal experience and inspiration, things I am drawn to that resemble my being. I approach all of my work with empathy and curiosity because I aim to fully understand what I am designing for, so I understand the story behind the problem before designing the solution. My values as a designer are connection, empathy, honesty, and adaptability; these values all guide me in creating and how I collaborate. Design becomes meaningful when it's personal; it's not decoration in the world, it is dialogue.
Visually, my style is often earthy with organic inspirations, and at the same time, it has an edgy and contemporary feel. This gives a feeling of movement and development while maintaining a sense of calm in my work. I want people to pause, reflect, and feel when they see themselves in my designs. In the end, I consider design to be a responsibility because it is a tool that can inspire change, sell, and communicate. I want to make art that resonates with people on a deep level, reflecting our common experiences and leaving behind more than just a graphic, a feeling of purpose and belonging.
